Face for Business

is proud to be located in the region where the recent ‘Giant Spectacular’ took place!

One of our employees went to see the Giants with her family and commented that the event was ‘thoroughly enjoyable and breath-taking’.  Seeing as there is such enthusiasm surrounding the event, we decided to provide a roundup of the best videos from the event.  From the Giant dog, Xolo, to the little girl Giant taking a pee in the street and the Grandma yawning, we thought it would be a nice way to commemorate the end of the event!

The People Behind the Puppets - Royal de Luxe

Royal de Luxe began their journey into street theatre in 1979, with their first production ‘Cape Horn’.  The company were convinced that “it was easier to reach an audience by going outside rather than dragging them into a room, the show was played in the streets and in public open spaces”.  The street theatres name came from the model of multi-track tape they used for writing their shows!  Several shows later and the company’s population has grown and grown.

It seems that the first Giant appeared in their production of ‘The Giant Who Fell from Heaven’ in 1993.  In this production the Giant is manipulated in full view of the audience by a collection of actors all dressed in red (familiar to the set-up we’ve seen in Liverpool).  Fast forward several years to 2009 when the deep-sea diver Giant is born.  2010 brought the fun-loving dog Xolo.

It was the year 2012 that the Giants first came to Liverpool to mark the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic, with the Little Girl-Giant and the deep sea diver ‘uncle’ being reunited before setting off home along the River Mersey.

Royal de Luxe and the Giants returned to Liverpool this summer to mark the centenary of the beginning of World War 1, encompassing the theme ‘Memories of August 2014’.
