The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills reported last year that 70% of new businesses are conceived in the home, and bring £300 billion to the economy. The government has been striving to make starting a business from home more accessible and have put measures in place to enable this to happen, by eradicating the need for planning permission, by ensuring that business rates are not applicable in the majority of circumstances and by altering tenancy laws to make it easy to run a business from home.  

Towards the end of 2014, there were a number of articles reporting that there were 2.9m ‘homepreneurs’ in the UK, with female entrepreneurs accounting for 64% of this sector, representing 50% of our small businesses.
