Armed Forces Day is an annual event in the United Kingdom celebrated on the last Saturday in June to commemorate the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces.
Veteran’s Day as it was originally known, was established in 2006 by the then Chancellor Gordon Brown, to ensure that the contribution of veterans was never forgotten. It was re-named Armed Forces day in 2009 to raise awareness and appreciation for not only veterans of campaigns over the years, but to include those on active duty.
Each year, a ‘Host City’ is selected, this year’s main event being centred on Stirling. There will be numerous other events up and down the country being held over the weekend of 28th/29th June 2014.
Many of these events will also include fundraising for one or more of our military charities which provide vital support to servicemen and women, many of whom have suffered life-changing injuries in the line of duty.
Here at Face for Business we have decided to focus our 1st Birthday Celebrations on raising funds for ‘Help for Heroes.’ (Have a read of our blog which notes our achievements over the past year).
The charity provides support in a number of ways. They help to fund Recovery Centres such as Headley Court which provides an ideal environment for patients to receive the care and support they need on their road to recovery. They also provide individual support. This may include funding equipment to make a home more accessible, or providing servicemen and women who arrive in hospital with no personal belongings, possibly miles from family and friends, with a pack of ‘essentials’ to make their stay in hospital that bit more comfortable.
Face for Business shall be carrying out a number of fund-raising activities over the week of our birthday, 2nd July 2014, a Cake Sale, Name the Teddy, and a Raffle, to name just a few and have set up a Justgiving page to enable online donations as well.
A donation of just £2 will help provide practical direct support to our current wounded. You can change someone’s life today!
